Massage

Massage has been practiced for thousands of years. It is the manual treatment of soft body tissues to enhance physical, mental and emotional health. There are many different forms of massage.  At BHCH we offer remedial (deep tissue), relaxation, aromatherapy and Tui Na (Chinese Remedial Massage). All massage is claimable through health funds.

Remedial Massage

Remedial massage improves muscle and joint pain which can develop while you are at home, at work or exercising.
Deep massage strokes, muscle and nerve stretching, joint movements and muscle release points are used to improve your blood circulation and muscular tone.

By reducing pain and improving joint movement your quality of life is enhanced.

Remedial massage can also involve home exercises aimed at strengthening or relaxing your muscles.

Relaxation Massage

Relaxation massage involves long, broad, slow, circular massage strokes and rocking.

Relaxation massage encourages your body to rest and restore.

Like remedial massage, it enhances your blood and lymph circulation, nourishes your body cells, relaxes your muscles and diminishes pain. Your entire body is treated although particular areas can be focused on such as the head, feet, hands, and shoulders.

Aromatherapy Massage

Essential oils have great healing properties. When inhaled or placed on the skin they send messages to your brain creating mental, emotional and physical changes. For example:

 - Lavender promotes relaxation
 - Peppermint increases your energy levels
 - Basil and wintergreen reduce your muscular aches and pains

Essential oils add to the therapeutic effect of both remedial and relaxation massage.

Some conditions which are treated by massage include:

Sciatica
Neck/back/hip/foot pain
Muscular tension
Headaches
Home, work or sporting injuries
Depression
Anxiety
Stress
Insomnia

Shiatsu

Shiatsu translates to “finger pressure” in Japanese. It is holistic healing system based on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) principles. Energy moves throughout your body through energy pathways known as meridians which are connected to specific organs. Disruptions to this flow of energy may produce symptoms such as pain, stiffness, digestive, emotional and mental imbalances.

Shiatsu helps restore these imbalances and thereby relieves pain and symptoms. You are fully clothed during a treatment while meridians, muscles, tendons and joints are treated with broad palm pressure, stretching, finger pressure, kneading, jostling, holding, muscle release techniques and gentle joint rotations.

Shiatsu has exactly the same, if not more benefits than massage.

During a treatment your circulation is stimulated, your nervous system relaxes and your hormonal system can rebalance. Shiatsu is able to treat range of conditions ranging from muscular pain to menstrual difficulties, digestive conditions to anxiety.

Depending on your needs Shiatsu treatments may also include dietary and lifestyle advice and take home exercises

Shiatsu  can successfully treat the conditions mentioned under massage as well. F0r example shoulder, back and neck tension.
